KAPPA SIGMA’S SHAVE TO SAVE

RAISING MONEY FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, ONE HEAD AT A TIME

KUTZTOWN, PA, April 24th, 2008 -- Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Kutztown University is hosting its 2nd annual Shave to Save event at Kutztown University. Brothers of Kappa Sigma partner with Kutztown University’s Relay for Life in a fundraising effort to benefit the American Cancer Society.

With the help of professional barbers and hair stylists, brothers of Kappa Sigma shave or cut the hair of participating students, faculty, and community members to acknowledge the struggle of cancer patients. All proceeds received from haircuts and the purchase of charitable items will be donated to The American Cancer Society for continued research and patient care. Through this event Kappa Sigma also hopes to increase the awareness of the devastating effects that cancer has on its victims and their families. After a successful first year, Kappa Sigma is proud to tell you that the inaugural Shave to Save successfully donated over $6,500 to the American Cancer Society!

There are many ways to donate such as getting your head shaved, or you can get a haircut from our professional barbers and hair stylists from local volunteering businesses. You may also contribute by purchasing a Shave to Save t-shirt, tickets for a chance at the silent auction prizes; purchase a Shave to Save ribbon, or just give a general donation. 100% of all proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

The Shave to Save will take place on Thursday, April 24th from 9:00am to midnight in conjunction with a 24 hour Relay for Life. Starting on the SUB lawn, you will be able to include yourself in shaving, haircuts, silent auction, live bands, food, a dunk tank, prizes, Spuds fries, games, and more. Then from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Shave to Save changes locations to the DMZ of KU’s campus. Finally, from 8:30pm to Midnight, Shave to Save returns to the SUB lawn. Josee Vachon, wife of KU President, Dr. F. Javier Cevallos, will be speaking of her personal experience of surviving the fight with cancer. A presentation of the gifts, candle lighting ceremony as part of the Relay for Life, live band, and games will continue throughout the entire night.

A rain date for Shave to Save is set for Friday, April 25 and will be announced through the website and Facebook.

This year Kappa Sigma raises the bar in hopes to reach its goal of donating
$10,000 to the American Cancer Society!
